Yemen’s Houthi rebels, locked in a war with a Saudi-led coalition for seven years, have announced a three-day ceasefire and raised the prospect of a permanent truce after hitting Saudi Arabia with a wave of drone and missile attacks. The war in Yemen began when Saudi Arabia intervened to support a government toppled by the Houthis. The UN estimates that 377,000 people have died in the conflict - one of the worlds most under-reported - either on the battlefield or from starvation and disease.

Afghanistan
Afghanistan’s girls are brave - really brave. Dozens of them gathered on Saturday near the education ministry in the capital Kabul to demand the Taliban reopen girls’ high schools. Chaos and heartbreak erupted in the country earlier this week when the Taliban did a u-turn on a decision to open high schools for girls, just hours after girls across the country had arrived for the first day of school. The protesters waved placards and chanted “Education is our right!” with armed Taliban members looking on. "When it comes to standing up for freedom and the girls who want to go to school, I'm willing to die,” a female teacher told the BBC at the demonstration.

China has confirmed that all 132 passengers on board a passenger plane that crashed in the southeast of the country on Monday were killed. The China Eastern Airlines flight lost altitude sharply before crashing, but the cause of the disaster remains a mystery. China has one of the best airline safety records in the world.
