Togo
Seven children between the ages of 14 and 18 have been killed in a bomb blast in northern Togo as a regional conflict seeps across its border. It’s the second recent attack in the country’s Savanna region. In May, unidentified gunmen killed eight soldiers and wounded 13. The governments of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger have for years been battling groups with links to ISIS and al-Qaeda. Burkina Faso, which borders Togo, has become the epicenter with attacks spiralling in recent months.

India-China
India will overtake China to become the world’s most populated country by next year, according to a new UN report. The report also said that the world’s population will hit a record 8 billion on November 15th this year. Though the number is staggering, the UN said that the global population was growing at its slowest rate since 1950.

Iran
Celebrated Iranian film director Jafar Panahi has been arrested, the Mehr news agency reported today, becoming the third filmmaker to be arrested this week. Panahi, who has supported anti-government protests and made films critical of Iran, is a multi-award winner who has been barred by the government from leaving the country to pick them up. State news agency IRNA reported that another director, Mohammad Rasoulof, had been arrested with colleague Mostafa Aleahmad the day before.
