Syria
Two civilians have been killed in an Israeli missile attack on the outskirts of Syria’s capital Damascus, according to the country’s state news agency. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a pro-opposition monitoring group, said the missiles hit a weapons and ammunition depot operated by Iranian militias. SOHR says that Israel has launched at least seven air raids on Syria this year.

Tunisia
Tunisia’s slow-burning political crisis continues. President Kais Saied today appointed judges to a temporary top judicial council a month after he dissolved the body. Saied seized all executive powers last year and has been accused by his opponents of establishing a dictatorship. Saied and his supporters, though, say his actions are necessary to root out endemic corruption among officials.

Uganda
Terrible story out of Uganda. Students at a school in the town of Gulu protested when told they would be unable to watch an English Premier League match between Manchester United and Manchester City because it clashed with their revision time. The school ordinarily screens soccer games that take place at a different time, according to the headmaster. In what appears to be an extraordinary overreaction, police fired teargas at the students and a 19-year-old was then shot dead. Headmaster Awani Jimi described the dead pupil as "polite, gentle and hard-working."
