Rwanda-DRC
Demonstrators have taken to the streets of Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to protest Rwanda’s alleged support for a rebel group that is seizing increasing amounts of territory around the city. DRC expelled the Rwandan ambassador and recalled its own ambassador from Rwanda in a move the Rwandan government called “regrettable,” adding that the advance of the M23 rebels was down to DRC’s “own governance and security failures.” The mostly Congolese Tutsi group briefly captured Goma in 2012 before retreating to forests on the DRC-Rwanda border. It emerged blazing from the bush again last year accusing DRC’s government of reneging on a deal to integrate its fighters into the national army.

Somalia
Somalia’s government has appealed to several countries to send doctors to deal with the hundreds of wounded from a massive twin car bombing that killed 120 people in the capital Mogadishu on Saturday. Kenya, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia were asked for help as Health Minister Ali Haji warned the death toll could rise if the condition of some of the more than 300 wounded deteriorated. There are also a number of people still missing. The attack, believed to have been carried out by the al-Shabab armed group, is one of the biggest to hit the capital in recent years.
