Nigeria
More than 70 ISIS fighters were killed in an air raid in Nigeria, the country’s air force has said. In a statement, the military said the raids were launched near the Nigeria-Niger border and that jets from both countries were involved. The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) group has recently grown in strength and influence, largely defeating Boko Haram, a rival armed group. It’s estimated by local authorities that ISWAP and Boko Haram have killed more than 40,000 people over the last decade, and more than two million people have left their homes to flee the violence.

Afghanistan
Some intriguing tensions developing between Pakistan and the Taliban government in Afghanistan - intriguing because Pakistan has been the Taliban’s biggest supporter since it returned to power last year. Taliban officials have accused Pakistan of firing rockets across the border, killing at least 47 people, mainly women and children. Pakistan has not commented on whether it launched the missiles or not, but warned the Afghan Taliban not to shelter members of the Pakistani Taliban - a homegrown group that has stepped up attacks on Pakistan’s military in recent months.

Israel-Palestine
Israeli forces have for the second time in three days stormed into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem - the third holiest site in Islam. Footage shared on social media showed soldiers hitting women with batons and, in one widely shared clip, shoving a disabled man to the ground. The Israeli military and police presence in and around the mosque compound, a site worshipped by Jews as the Temple Mount, has soared during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, fuelling tensions.
