India
A horrific story out of India. The bodies of teen sisters, aged 15 and 17, have been found hanging from a tree in the northern Uttar Pradesh state, and police suspect they were gang raped and murdered. Six suspects have been arrested. The girls were from the marginalized Dalit community, who were once referred to as “untouchables” and who occupy the lowest position in India’s complicated caste system. The case, far from the first of its kind in the region, has caused uproar in the country.
