Israel-Palestine
This first story is hard to fathom. It is hard to imagine, hard to find the words to describe. But it happened. It happened in full view of news cameras. It happened live on Al Jazeera. Israeli forces attacked, baton charged, beat and tear-gassed mourners carrying the coffin of slain Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, almost causing them to drop it. Even in death, she was not spared the indignity of occupation or afforded the immense respect that she deserves. A hearse carrying her coffin was later surrounded by riot police, some on horseback, who violently ripped Palestinian flags from it. They even smashed a window to remove one. “This was a peaceful funeral, everyone was there to show their support and love,” Shireen’s niece Lina said.

North Korea
Six people have died and 350,000 are being treated for a “mysterious” fever that has spread quickly across North Korea. The government said it doesn’t know the cause of the fevers but experts say it is likely the country has very few COVID tests.

India
At least 27 people have been killed and dozens injured after a huge fire broke out in a commercial building in India’s capital New Delhi. Seventy people have been rescued, but one floor of the building has yet to be searched and local media reported that the death toll is likely to rise. No cause for the blaze has yet been announced. Such fires are common in India, where building laws and safety regulations are often flouted.
