Two Haitian journalists have been shot and burned alive, according to a radio station one of the men worked for. Wilguens Louissaint and Amady John Wesley are reported to have traveled to an area where two criminal gangs are fighting for control. Écoute FM told the BBC that one of the gangs had "savagely" killed the journalists. Haiti has been in a state of chaos since its president, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in July.

Kazakhstan
Shoot to kill. That was the order issued by Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev as anti-government protests continued to rage. In an address to the nation, Tokayev said security forces had been ordered to “shoot to kill without warning” as part of what he called a counter-terrorism operation. Dozens of civilians and police officers have been killed, according to officials, in nearly a week of violence.

South Africa
South Africa’s ruling African National Congress, the storied party of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, celebrates its 110th anniversary this weekend riven by division, accusations of corruption and coming off its worst electoral performance in the country’s democratic history. “It’s a broad spectrum of challenges and problems. It needs leadership but also needs us to work together, and to ask ourselves whether we give in,” President Cyril Ramaphosa told a crowd of ANC supporters this week.
