It’s been a bloody week in Afghanistan. The ruling Taliban today said the death toll from a bombing attack on a mosque and religious school had risen to 33 - many of them schoolchildren. The country has been hit by a string of horrific attacks in recent weeks, which officials blame on Taliban foes, the Islamic State in Khorasan Province.

Somalia
Sadly, staying with bombing attacks, a popular seaside restaurant in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu was today attacked, killing six people and wounding seven. The restaurant is known to be frequented by government officials. The al-Shabaab armed group claimed responsibility for the bombing. Shabab, which has been fighting the government for more than a decade, controls some rural parts of the country and launches regular hit-and-run attacks in cities, often using suicide bombers.

Ethiopia
A video of farmers in Ethiopia dragging ploughs over their shoulders has gone viral, shocking Ethiopians worldwide. The men told the BBC that their oxen had all died due to drought and so they had no choice. The Horn of Africa region is going through its worst drought in 40 years, affecting communities in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.
