A UN report today warned of a lost generation in Yemen. The UN children’s agency, UNICEF, said that some two million children in the country were not receiving any schooling due to a conflict that has been grinding on since 2014. Some 8.1 million children need emergency education assistance, the report said.

Nigeria
Yet another mass kidnapping of children in Nigeria. At least 140 children were abducted from a school by armed men who launched an attack on a local police station as a distraction before breaking down the school’s fence and taking the children away at gunpoint. In recent months, there has been a wave of mass kidnappings of children for ransom in the country’s north. More than 1,000 students have been taken since December and more than 200 are still missing, according to authorities.

Honduras
A man in Honduras has been convicted of masterminding the murder of an environmental and Indigenous activist who was campaigning against a dam project he was involved in. Berta Cáceres, who won the prestigious Goldman Prize for her environmental activism, was shot dead at her home by hired hitmen in 2016.
