Yemen
At least 49 people are dead and 140 missing after a boat carrying people from the Horn of Africa capsized on its way to Yemen, according to the UN's International Organization for Migration (IOM). The IOM said six children and 31 women were among the dead. The boat set sail from Somalia carrying 115 Somali nationals and 145 Ethiopians and sank on Monday in strong winds. Yemen has increasingly become a transit point for people from the Horn of Africa, many fleeing conflict or poverty, attempting to travel to wealthy Gulf States such as Saudi Arabia.

Almost 3,000 out of 3,800 children who had been receiving medical care for malnutrition in southern Gaza have been cut off from their treatment, the UN children’s agency has said. “Horrific images continue to emerge from Gaza of children dying before their families’ eyes due to the continued lack of food, nutrition supplies, and the destruction of healthcare services,” UNICEF’s Adele Khodr said. “Unless treatment can be quickly resumed for these 3,000 children, they are at immediate and serious risk of becoming critically ill, acquiring life-threatening complications, and joining the growing list of boys and girls who have been killed by this senseless, man-made deprivation.”

Colombia
A court in the United States has ordered Chiquita to pay compensation to victims of a Colombian paramilitary group the banana giant was found to have made payments to from 1997 - 2004. The group, the United Self-Defence Forces of Colombia (AUC), was designated a terror group by the US at the time and was accused of widespread abuses, including killing trade unionists and banana workers. Eight families of AUC victims brought the case and the court ordered they be paid $38.3m in damages. Chiquita says it was a victim of extortion.
