Yemen
It’s one of the world’s most brutal and under-reported conflicts and it’s been dragging on for eight years now. But could an end to the war in Yemen be near? A delegation from Saudi Arabia today arrived in the capital Sana'a for talks with the Houthi rebel group. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have controlled the capital since they drove the then government out in 2015. A Saudi-led coalition, supported by the US and the UK among others, then intervened militarily on the government’s behalf. The talks, mediated by Oman, have been in the works since Iran and Saudi - longtime regional rivals - agreed to restore diplomatic ties last month. Mohammed al-Bukaiti, a Houthi leader, said on Twitter that peace would be “a triumph for both parties.”

Burkina Faso
At least 44 people have been killed in attacks in Burkina Faso described as "despicable and barbaric attack" by officials. Armed men attacked two villages, Kourakou and Tondobi, in the Sahel region near the border with Niger. Burkina Faso and neighboring countries have been fighting groups linked to ISIS and al-Qaeda for almost a decade and the violence appears to have been spiralling recently. Public anger over the protracted insecurity led to a military coup in Burkina last January. But the captain who led that coup was later overthrown himself when he failed to get a handle on the armed groups. Thousands of civilians have been killed in the conflict and more than two million people across the Sahel forced from their homes.

Iran
Iranian police have announced they are installing cameras in public places to pick out women not wearing the hijab. Women identified will be sent “warning text messages as to the consequences,” a statement said, adding the move was aimed at “preventing resistance against the hijab law,” which it said could lead to insecurity. A growing number of women have been defying the compulsory wearing of the hijab since nationwide protests erupted last year after a young woman died in the custody of the morality police. She had reportedly been detained for not wearing her veil correctly.
