Tunisia
Hundreds of Tunisians have taken to the streets of the capital Tunis for the second time this month to protest the seizure of sweeping powers by President Kais Saied. Saied in July sacked the prime minister and suspended parliament, citing corruption and mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, in a move his opponents described as a coup. Other Tunisians, frustrated by unemployment and ongoing political crisis, supported him. “The people want the fall of the coup,” the demonstrators chanted.

Israel-Palestine
Five Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli troops after apparent gun battles erupted as Israeli forces carried out what they said were raids targeting Hamas members in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli army said that two of its soldiers were seriously wounded. The West Bank has been the scene of intensifying violence in recent weeks as Israel cracked down on Palestinians protesting Israeli settlement construction.

Sudan-Ethiopia
Sudan said today that it had repelled an Ethiopian incursion into its territory. Tensions have been running high between the neighbors since the outbreak of a civil conflict in Ethiopia sent tens of thousands of Ethiopians fleeing into Sudan. The two countries dispute ownership of the al-Fashaga region near their border.
