A horrible accident in Tanzania. Twenty-two people were killed when a bus crashed into a truck in the east of the country, the president’s office said. Tanzania has suffered a spate of traffic accidents with high death tolls. President Samia Suluhu Hassan tweeted her condolences and urged people to “adhere to traffic rules.”

Syria
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has visited an Arab country for the first time since the brutal war in Syria erupted eleven years ago, in the latest sign that regional countries are bringing him in from the cold. Assad made an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he travelled to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi and met with Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan. Arab countries had previously cut all ties with Assad and the visit prompted anger from many Syrians who have been forced to flee the country. The US government said it was "profoundly disappointed."

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka, in the grip of a dire economic crisis, has been forced to cancel exams for millions of students after the country ran out of paper. “School principals cannot hold the tests as printers are unable to secure foreign exchange to import necessary paper and ink,” the Department of Education of the Western Province said in a statement.
