Syria
Satellite imagery has shown massive destruction at a giant military base in western Syria apparently hit by Israeli air strikes. Rami Abdurrahman, a UK-based activist who monitors the war in Syria, said the main target was an arms depot filled with about 1,000 medium-range missiles belonging to an Iran-linked militia. Iranian militias have been key in helping Syrian President Bashar al-Assad turn the 10-year civil war in his favor and retake most of the country. Israel has carried out hundreds of air raids inside Syria during the war but it rarely acknowledges them publicly.

The Taliban has lashed out at the government of Pakistan, claiming it is allowing US drones to use its airspace before entering Afghanistan. “According to our information the drones are entering through Pakistan to Afghanistan, they use Pakistan’s airspace, we ask Pakistan, don’t use your airspace against us,” the Taliban’s Acting Minister of Defence Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob said. Pakistani authorities have previously denied prior knowledge of the US drone strike that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in Kabul last July. Pakistan hasn’t yet commented on the latest allegations.

India
Protests have erupted across India after 11 men sentenced to life for a notorious gang rape were freed after serving just 15 years. The men gang raped a Muslim woman, Bilkis Bano, in 2002 during anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat state. Fourteen members of her family were also killed during the unrest. "How can justice for any woman end like this? I trusted the highest courts in our land. I trusted the system, and I was learning slowly to live with my trauma. The release of these convicts has taken from me my peace and shaken my faith in justice," Bano said in a statement.
