The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo said today that ten of its citizens were killed when Sudan’s army bombarded a university campus in Khartoum. "What hurts us very much is that it was the regular army that dropped the bombs knowing there were foreigners there," Congolese foreign minister Christophe Lutundula said. The fighting in Sudan, between the army and a paramilitary group, is now in its eighth week and, after several failed ceasefires, shows no signs of abating.

Indian authorities are appealing for families to come forward and identify 83 bodies that are so far unclaimed in mortuaries and hospitals days after a horrific three-train crash killed at least 288 people. An official told the Reuters news agency that they were trying to source iced containers to help preserve the unclaimed bodies. There has been confusion during the identification process with some bodies being double-claimed and, in one case, a body being handed over to the wrong family. A signal failure was to blame for the disaster, according to preliminary findings.

Did you know that one of Muammar Gaddafi’s sons was kidnapped from Syria and taken to Lebanon, where he has been imprisoned without charge since 2015? Me neither. But Hannibal Gaddafi is now trying to draw attention to his plight by going on hunger strike. Gaddafi started the strike on Saturday and his lawyer today said his health has already deteriorated. The 47-year-old fled Libya to Algeria with his family after his father was toppled in 2011 before claiming political asylum in Syria. A Lebanese militia later snatched him, apparently looking for information on the disappearance of a prominent Lebanese cleric in Libya some 45 years ago.
