South Sudan
South Sudan today angrily dismissed a UN report that accused the country’s governing elites of stealing “staggering” amounts of money from public funds. The UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan said more than $73m had gone missing since 2018 with almost $39m stolen in one period of less than two months. Since it was founded ten years ago, the world’s youngest country has gone through a civil war that killed about 400,000 people as well as multiple hunger crises.

Lebanon
The official investigation into the huge port explosion that devastated Lebanon’s capital Beirut last year has been suspended for the second time after former interior minister Nohad Machnouk questioned the lead judge’s impartiality. Similar complaints from officials saw the previous lead judge, who wanted to charge former prime minister Hassan Diab and three other ministers with negligence, removed from the case. The explosion killed at least 218 people and wounded 7,000 others.

South Korea
South Korea's President Moon Jae-in has raised the possibility of banning the consumption of dog meat in the country. Though not eaten by the majority of South Koreans, dog meat is a delicacy for which up to one millions dogs are slaughtered each year. Moon has several pet dogs living with him at his official residence.
