A car bomb in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu today killed at least eight people and wounded nine others, locals said. The blast happened outside the international airport, the city’s most fortified area and home to several embassies. The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab armed group claimed responsibility, saying it was targeting a convoy of “white officials.” Shabab, which has been battling the government for more than a decade, controls territory in rural areas and carries out regular attacks in Mogadishu.

Nigeria
Nigeria has lifted a ban on Twitter after seven months. The social media giant was blocked in the country after it removed a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari’s account, which it said violated its “abusive behavior” policy. Nigerian authorities said they held talks with Twitter and agreed to work on a code of conduct together.

St Lucia
St Lucia is experiencing a rather worrying pandemic side effect. It has been unable to prosecute a murder case since January 2020, and the backlog comes as homicides hit a record level in the island nation. More than 90 murder suspects are currently awaiting trial and officials are running out of space to keep them. The problem? Courthouses in the country are not large enough to accommodate socially-distanced juries.
