A suicide bomber targeted a minibus filled with parliamentary workers in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu today, killing at least six people. “The area was densely populated when the blast occurred and some of the victims, most of them civilians, are seriously wounded,” security official Abdullahi Muktar told the AFP news agency. The bomb was the latest in a string of recent attacks claimed by the al-Shabab armed group.

Moroccan authorities are to survey makeshift and unofficial wells across the country after the death of five-year-old Rayan Oram, who fell down a well his father was working on, prompted an outpouring of national grief after a five-day effort failed to rescue the boy. Many Moroccans struggle to access safe drinking water.

Civilians deaths and injuries in Yemen’s war have more than doubled since UN monitors were booted out of the country in October, the Norwegian Refugee Council aid group said today. “The removal of this crucial human rights investigative body took us back to unchecked, horrific violations,” the NRC’s Erin Hutchinson said.
