Somalia
At least five people were killed today when an explosives-packed car detonated close to a convoy carrying the police commissioner in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu. The police chief, Farhan Mohamud, escaped unharmed when the massive explosion tore through one of the city’s busiest intersections. The al-Shabab armed group, engaged in a bloody rebellion against Somalia’s government, later claimed responsibility.

Haiti
Haiti’s interim leaders have requested to the UN and the US that foreign troops be sent in to protect key infrastrastructure as they try to stabilize the country following the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. Haitian police say the president was killed by 28 foreign mercenaries, 17 of whom are now in custody, but it is still not known who organized the attack and what the motive might have been.

Iran
The website of Iran’s transport and urbanization ministry was taken down by hackers just a day after a similar attack on the the country’s railroad system. The Iranian government didn’t say who might have been behind the attack or that a ransom was demanded. Tehran has in the past accused Israel and the United States of being behind cyber attacks on government networks.
