Sierra Leone
At least 99 people have been killed in a fuel tanker explosion in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown. The tanker is reported to have collided with another vehicle in heavy traffic and horrific footage shared on social media appeared to show many had perished inside their cars. More than 100 people are being treated for injuries.

Sudan
Has Sudan’s military coup leader General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan bitten off more than he can chew? Burhan and his allies have been under intense pressure since toppling a transitional government made up of civilian and military leaders last week and, in the latest turn of the screw, anti-coup protest organizers are saying that a return to that arrangement is not enough. They want the military removed from government altogether. Two days of nationwide strikes have been announced beginning tomorrow.

Afghanistan
A horrible story out of Afghanistan. It appears that four women were lured to their deaths after receiving a call promising them safe passage on an evacuation flight to Germany. One of the women is reported to have been 29-year-old Frozan Safi, a university lecturer who was a well-known women’s rights activist.
