Senegal
Senegal’s President Macky Sall said today he would step down in April after accusations from opponents that he was attempting to stay on past his two-term limit. The fears were prompted by a decision to suspend until December an election that had been scheduled to go ahead this Sunday. The government cited unresolved disputes about who was eligible to run in a move that sparked protests in the capital Dakar during which three people were killed by security forces. Senegal has long been one of West Africa’s most stable democracies.

Israel-Palestine
You’ll remember the shattering story of Hind Rajab, the 6-year-old Palestinian girl who died while trapped in a car surrounded by the dead bodies of relatives after the vehicle was hit by an Israeli strike. Two medics who went to rescue her were also killed when another Israeli strike destroyed the ambulance they were traveling in. Hind had been on the phone with the Palestinian Red Crescent begging them to come and save her, and the audio of her call is heartbreaking. “I’m so scared, please come,” she said. Al Jazeera has just put together the most comprehensive picture of what happened to her. It is worth your time.

The Koreas
The US, South Korea and North Korea are puffing out their peacock feathers at each other again. It happens a lot but it’s always worth keeping an eye on to take the temperature of their relations. In the latest salvo, the US and South Korea have flown stealth warplanes over the peninsula in a missile-interception drill. It comes after the North carried out a slew of missile tests. Relations between the Koreas appear to be at a particularly low ebb after improving briefly in 2018.
