You’ll likely have read elsewhere today that, after months of legal wrangling, legislation to send asylum seekers to Rwanda was finally passed by the UK’s upper house of parliament - bringing a key policy of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak closer to reality. Sunak says flights could begin within 10 - 12 weeks. But slightly lost in all the coverage is what Rwandans think. BBC today asked them.

India’s biggest opposition party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of hate speech after he appeared to call the minority Muslim population “infiltrators” at an election rally. The Congress party filed a complaint with the country’s election commission. Modi, a longtime Hindu nationalist, has been accused of vilifying the Muslim community since coming to power a decade ago.

Haiti
“Catastrophic” and getting worse by the day. That’s the UN on the situation in Haiti as it grapples with a gang violence problem it just can’t seem to get a handle on. Three million children need humanitarian aid but the violence is making it hard to deliver, the head of the UN children's agency said. Gangs are now estimated to be in control of a staggering 90 percent of the capital Port-au-Prince, and 2.7 million people are living in the areas where they hold sway.
