Six people have been sentenced to death for the horrific murder of a Sri Lankan man in Pakistan last year. Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana was targeted after rumors spread that he had taken down a religious poster at the factory he managed and thrown it in the garbage. Gruesome videos circulated on social media showing Diyawadana being beaten as a crowd castigated him for blasphemy. The killing outraged many Pakistanis.

Israel-Palestine
Israel today said it intercepted a rocket that had been fired into its territory from the Palestinian enclave of Gaza. It comes after days of violence in East Jerusalem with Israeli soldiers twice storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The situation is becoming eerily similar to events that at this time last year led to Israel bombarding the occupied Gaza Strip for 11 days, killing 232 Palestinians, 65 of them children.

South Africa is sending a staggering 10,000 troops into its KwaZulu-Natal province to help with search and rescue operations after flooding devastated large parts of the region, wiping away homes and business and burying others in mud. Some 440 people have been killed and authorities say that more than 60 are still missing.
