Oman
A Briton and a Romanian have been killed in an attack on an Israeli-owned oil tanker off the coast of Oman. There have been several such incidents in the region since 2019 on which the US and Israel has blamed Iran. Tehran, though, said it believed the incident was piracy. The UK Maritime Trade Operations naval authority said it was not piracy, without elaborating. It is not yet clear what cargo the vessel was carrying.

Tunisia
A Tunisian MP was today arrested after he called President Kais Saied’s dismissal of the country’s prime minister and closure of parliament a coup. Saied, who has said he now holds executive authority, last week lifted immunity for parliamentarians.

Hong Kong
The first person convicted under a hugely controversial anti-terror law in Hong Kong has been sentenced to nine years in prison. Tong Ying-kit was accused of riding a motorcycle into a group of police while flying a flag reading, “Liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times." More than 100 people have so far been arrested under the law, which government critics say is aimed at stamping out a pro-democracy movement.
