Nigeria
As mentioned in previous newsletters, people are going hungry all over the world yet it rarely makes the international headlines. In the latest example, more than two million children and young people need urgent food aid in northeastern Nigeria, according to aid groups. Nigeria has been at war with the Boko Haram armed group - and now its offshoot the Islamic State West Africa Province - in the region for more than a decade. The conflict has heated up again in recent months and civilians are paying the price.

Egypt
Rights group Amnesty International has called for an investigation after the Egyptian military released a video in which its forces appeared to be hunting down and executing alleged militants in the country’s Sinai Peninsula. The narrator of the video says some 89 men were killed. Some of them appeared to be unarmed and one was sleeping in a tent. Egypt has been battling armed groups in Sinai’s desert for years.

Japan
A man has gone on a stabbing rampage on a Tokyo commuter train, wounding at least 10 people before fleeing. Local reports said that one person was seriously injured, nine were taken to hospital and one needed no further treatment. The man was later arrested after walking into a store and telling the manager that he was tired of running. Police have yet to comment on the incident.
