Nepal
At least 68 people have been killed after a passenger plane making a short trip to a tourist town in Nepal crashed with 72 onboard. Rescuers have recovered 68 bodies and officials say they are now in the process of identifying the dead. According to the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, 53 of the passengers, as well as the four flight staff on board, were Nepali. Foreigners on board included five Indians, four Russians, two Koreans, one Irish person, one French person, one Australian, and one Argentinian. It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, the worst in Nepal for three decades.

DR Congo
A bomb attack on a protestant church in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has killed at least five people and wounded 15. An army spokesman told the Reuters news agency that the attack was likely carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group that has pledged allegiance to ISIL. Though from neighboring Uganda, the ADF has been operating out of DRC since the 1990s. It has been accused of killing hundreds in regular raids on villages. More than 120 armed groups are hiding out in the bush of eastern DRC, a legacy of decades of conflict.

Afghanistan
Mursal Nabizada, an MP in Afghanistan before the Taliban came to power, has been shot dead at her home in the capital Kabul along with one of her bodyguards. Nabizada, once a member of the parliamentary defense commission, was one of the few female lawmakers who stayed in Kabul after the Taliban took power in 2021. Local police chief Molvi Hamidullah Khalid said an investigation was underway and did not answer questions about possible motives. Nabizada is the first parliamentarian from the previous administration to be killed since the Taliban takeover.
