Myanmar
At least 15 people have been killed in fighting in Myanmar, according to several media reports. The apparent clashes between a local militia and the military came two days after a call for a “nationwide uprising” was made by the National Unity Government, an opposition group that sees itself as a shadow administration. Peaceful protests erupted after the military toppled a democratic government led by Aung San Suu Kyi in February. But the anti-coup movement soon morphed into a low-level armed resistance after a brutal military crackdown said to have killed more than 1,000 people.

Israel-Palestine
Four of the six Palestines who staged a daring escape from one of Israel’s most secure prisons by tunneling out of their cell have been recaptured. Photos released by Israeli police today showed the most high-profile of the fugitives, Zakaria Zubeidi, being led away handcuffed and blindfolded. The six men have been hailed as heroes by Palestinians, the tunnel they escaped through dubbed “the tunnel of freedom.”

DR Congo
The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, has pledged to review huge mining contracts his predecessor signed with China. Tshisekedi says the deals, which he called “exploitation contracts”, shortchanged the DRC.
