Libya
Italian military boats today came to the rescue of a rickety fishing boat that was crammed with, unbelievably, more than 500 people trying to reach the island of Lampedusa - a popular arrival point for people fleeing poverty and war in North Africa and the Middle East. The boat is reported to have set sail from Libya and, according to Doctors Without Borders, many of the passengers had injuries consistent with torture. Most of those on board were from North Africa and West Africa and the rescue was one of the biggest ever undertaken on the Mediterranean.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei has said he sees little difference between US President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, calling Biden a “predatory wolf.” Iran, the US and other world powers are soon set to resume negotiations around the US re-entering a nuclear deal Trump pulled it out of.
