Israel-Palestine
All eyes are on Gaza’s hospitals as hell rains down. Al-Shifa, the Palestine enclave’s biggest, is in dire straits with air raids, artillery strikes and gunfire trapping people inside. It is believed to have lost power completely and fuel is running out. Israel says it has offered the hospital 300 litres of fuel but a doctor told the BBC that would last just half an hour. The UN’s World Health Organization put it bluntly. It said al-Shifa was simply “not operating as a hospital anymore.” Gaza's second biggest hospital, Al-Quds, is reported to have ceased operations completely after running out of fuel.

Sudan
More than half of Sudan’s population needs humanitarian aid, the UN has said, seven months into a conflict that has largely faded from the international headlines. “What is happening is verging on pure evil,” Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the resident UN humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, said. “Frankly, we are running out of words to describe the horror of what is happening.” The conflict broke out after a row erupted between the country’s military chief and the leader of a powerful paramilitary group.

Uganda
Two Ugandan army officers have been sacked for cowardice by a military court after running away during an attack on their base in Somalia. Fighters from the al-Shabab armed group stormed an African Union (AU) base in May killing at least 50 Ugandan soldiers, according to officials. Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni later criticised his military for its response. Uganda is one of several countries that contribute troops to an AU peacekeeping force helping Somalia’s government battle the Shabab group.
