Al Jazeera journalist Wael Dahdouh - whose entire immediate family as well as several members of his extended family were killed in an Israeli air strike yesterday - appeared back on air today, covering the continuing bombing raids on the Gaza Strip. Wael, a veteran correspondent who is widely respected across the region, said he felt he had "an obligation to cover this historic story despite everything."

Sudan
It’s fast becoming one of the world’s forgotten wars but more than 9,000 people have been killed and a staggering 5.6 million forced from their homes in just over six months of conflict in Sudan. Peace talks aimed at bringing it to an end resumed today in Saudi Arabia, brokered by Saudi and the US. It’s just the latest in a long line of attempts to work out a lasting deal between the country’s military and the Rapid Support Forces militia it is fighting. Several previous ceasefires quickly fell apart.

Costa Rica
Costa Rican anti-corruption authorities have confirmed they are investigating the theft of a whopping $6.1 million in cash from the country’s national bank. Though the money was stolen in August it was only noticed missing three weeks ago, according to Jaime Murillo, interim manager of the Banco Nacional. Authorities have not given details on exactly how such a large amount of money was taken out of the vaults.
