Afghanistan
Authorities in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan are sending abused women to prison and claiming it is for their own protection, a UN report has said. "Confining women who are already in a situation of vulnerability in a punitive environment would also likely have a negative impact on their mental and physical health, re-victimisation and put them at risk of discrimination and stigmatisation upon released," the report said. Since coming to power more than two years ago, the Taliban has systematically stripped women and girls of most of their rights.
