The parents of Gambian children who died after taking cough syrup have launched legal action against the Indian manufacturers of the medicine as well as the company that imported it. The 19 parents involved are seeking about $4.7m in damages and want the importer’s licence revoked. At least 70 children died in the country, most from acute kidney failure.
