Israeli forces shot and killed a 14-year-old Palestinian boy in the occupied West Bank today, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Some witnesses said soldiers prevented an ambulance from reaching Mohammed Shehadeh after he was shot. The Israeli military confirmed in a statement it had killed a Palestinian, saying he had been in a group throwing molotov cocktails. Rights groups regularly condemn what they say is excessive force from Israeli forces, and a shoot-to-kill policy.

Burkina Faso
Horrible tragedy in Burkina Faso, registering barely a blip on the international news radar. An explosion at a goldmine in the southwest of the country is reported to have killed 63 people. Witnesses said the blast happened at a market next to the mine, where dynamite was being stored. "There were bodies strewn everywhere. It was an explosion that managed to uproot trees and bring down houses," an official told the Reuters news agency. The AFP news agency reported children were among the dead.
