Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry has sacked the country’s justice minister days after firing a chief prosecutor who had recommended Henry be charged in relation to the murder of the country’s president in July. Prosecutor Bed-Ford Claude had asked the judge investigating the assassination to charge the prime minister, accusing him of speaking on the phone with a key suspect on the night of the murder. Henry was named prime minister just days before President Jovenel Moise was killed at his home.

Mali
France says it has killed the leader of the Islamic State in Greater Sahara armed group, an organisation that had recently appeared to be growing in strength. As mentioned in previous newsletters, the western Sahel region has for years been the epicenter of a conflict between the governments of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger and groups with links to al-Qaeda and ISIS. “This is another major success in our fight against terrorist groups in the Sahel,” French President Emmanuel Macron said.
