Ethiopia
More government air raids in Ethiopia’s Tigray region today. This time, hospital officials said that 10 people, including three children, had been killed. Government spokespeople said a facility used by Tigrayan rebels to maintain weapons had been the target and that it had been successfully hit. The TPLF rebels and doctors, though, said that a residential building had been destroyed. Footage screened on Tigrayan television appeared to show blankets and kettles in the rubble.

Saudi Arabia
Ali al-Nimr, arrested in Saudi Arabia as a minor and charged with offences related to anti-government protests, was freed today. Al-Nimr was arrested as a 17-year-old in 2012 and sentenced to death by beheading, in a case that provoked uproar from international rights groups and Saudi government critics. The kingdom is one of the world’s most prolific executioners, putting 40 people to death from January to July this year. Al-Nimr’s uncle was a well-known Shia cleric who was executed in 2016.
