Ethiopia
An incredibly grim statistic. As war continues in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, the United Nations today estimated that 5.2 million people - 91 percent of the region’s population - are in need of food aid. The World Food Programme says it fears full-scale famine.

Belarus
An opposition activist in Belarus stabbed himself in the neck with what appeared to be a pen during a court appearance today. Before he did it, Stepan Latypov was overheard telling his father, who was in the courtroom to give evidence, that he was forced to plead guilty under physical threat and that authorities also threatened to prosecute his relatives. Latypov is accused of setting up opposition social media and resisting arrest.

Space
Fascinating one. The Canadian Space Agency today revealed that a robotic arm it operates on the International Space Station (ISS), which is backed by countries including Canada, the United States, Russia and Japan, was hit by some space junk, leaving a small hole. Experts say that, with seven astronauts currently on board the ISS, it was a close shave. Space junk is defined as items left in lower earth orbit by humans and can include anything from flecks of paint to abandoned spacecraft.
