El Salvador
At least 12 people have been killed in a crush at a football stadium in El Salvador's capital San Salvador. Local reports said a large number of supporters may have tried to enter the stadium after some of the gates had been closed. “There were only two gates open in the whole stadium,” one fan told the La Prensa Grafica newspaper. “The people outside wanted to force their way in, and they all fell on us.” Officials believe fake tickets may have been sold. “El Salvador is in mourning,” President Nayib Bukele said in a statement. "Whoever the culprits are, they will not go unpunished.”

Sudan
Sudan’s government and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group have signed a truce after talks in Saudi Arabia, according to a statement from the US and Saudi governments. Fighting continued after the agreement was signed with it due to come into effect at 9:45 pm local time on Monday. The deal is supposed to facilitate humanitarian assistance as civilians remain caught in the middle after six weeks of fierce fighting. Stocks of food, medicine and other essentials are running low and looting has become widespread. Several previous truce agreements have failed.

Saudi Arabia
Two astronauts from Saudi Arabia will travel to the International Space Station to carry out a number of experiments, the state news agency said. Rayyanah Barnawi, a scientist specializing in cancer stem-cell research, will make history as the country’s first female astronaut and also the first from the Arab world. “Being the first Saudi woman astronaut, representing the region, it’s a great pleasure and honour that I’m very happy to carry,” she said. Barnawi and her male counterpart, fighter pilot Ali al-Qarni, will join Peggy Whitson, a former NASA astronaut, and US pilot John Shoffner, at the ISS on Monday on a mission organised by private space company Axiom Space.
