DR Congo
The death toll from flooding and landslides in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has leapt to almost 400, officials said today. At least 394 bodies have been recovered since the floods hit two villages last week, Thomas Bakenga, administrator of Kalehe territory in which the villages are located, told the AFP news agency. "Since Thursday we've been finding bodies every minute and we are burying them," he said. A day of national mourning will be observed on Monday, the government announced.

The Arab League expelled Syria in 2011 after Assad’s government viciously cracked down on popular protests that later evolved into full-blown war. His forces are now back in control of most of the country thanks largely to Russian and Iranian support.

Israel-Palestine
The European Union today condemned the demolition of a Palestinian school by Israeli authorities in the occupied West Bank. The EU Delegation to the Palestinians said on Twitter that it was "appalled" by the demolition and that it was "illegal under international law,” adding it would impact at least 60 children. COGAT, a branch of the Israeli military, said the school had been built illegally and was unsafe."We want a school today. We want to study, if they (Israeli forces) will keep demolishing, we will keep building," student Mohammed Ibrahim told the Reuters news agency.
