DR Congo
Mount Nyiragongo, one of the most active volcanos in the world, has erupted in the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, sending residents fleeing. For now, it looks like the lava is flowing away from the city of two million and towards the border with Rwanda. Nyiragongo last erupted in 2002, killing 250 people and destroying thousands of homes as it flowed into Goma. I happened to visit Goma in 2006 and found a city still traumatised and completely covered in ashes.

Myanmar
"Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in good health. She is at her home and healthy. She is going to face trial at the court in a few days."
The leader of Myanmar’s military junta has said that Aung San Suu Kyi will soon appear in court, which would be her first public appearance since she was deposed in a coup in February. Protests against the coup have now turned into armed resistance.
