Cameroon
At least 16 people were killed today when a building collapsed in Cameroon’s biggest city Douala. The four-storey building collapsed and fell onto a smaller residential building, according to a regional governor. Dozens of people were also wounded and rescuers were combing through the rubble in search of more bodies at the time of writing. Such incidents are sadly common in Cameroon. After a previous collapse in Douala in 2016, authorities identified 500 other similarly vulnerable buildings.

Afghanistan
The Taliban has denied a claim from Iran that top leaders from ISIS have been sent into Afghanistan. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on state television that senior ISIS members had travelled to the country from Iraq, Syria, and Libya in recent months. The ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan, known as ISIS-K, has proved the Taliban’s biggest challenge since it came to power two years ago, launching several high-profile attacks. “If Iran has any intelligence that [ISIS] members have been transferred to Afghanistan, we hope [they] share it so the Afghan security forces can take the necessary steps,” a Taliban spokesman said.

Sudan
