Burkina Faso
Efforts are continuing in Burkina Faso to rescue eight miners who have been trapped underground for more than two weeks. The mine, operated by Canadian company Trevali, flooded during heavy rains last month. The government has launched an inquiry into the incident and the managers of the mine have been barred from leaving the country. Prime Minister Albert Ouedraogo has blamed them for the disaster.

Ethiopia
More horror stories from Ethiopia’s war. A video went viral on social media today in which Ethiopian soldiers appear to physically abuse and taunt a young boy before shooting him in the stomach. "Don't kill him, let him suffer," one soldier can be heard saying in the clip. The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, which is state-run and distrusted by government opponents, said it was investigating the video.

Israel-Palestine
More than 600 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons without charge or trial, an Israeli human rights group has said. HaMoked said it has documented 604 detainees who are held under a policy known as “administrative detention.” People arrested under the policy are held on “secret evidence,” are unaware what the accusations against them are, and are held for renewable six-month terms. Many of them have been imprisoned for years and international human rights groups decry the practice.
