Afghanistan
The US military has carried out a drone strike on a vehicle in Afghanistan in which it said several attackers were travelling on their way to launch another suicide attack on Kabul airport. “Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,” US Central Command spokesperson Bill Urban said. The US has two days left of its evacuation operation.

Israel-Palestine
The Israeli army says it has carried out air raids on Hamas positions in the occupied Gaza Strip in response to incendiary balloons launched into southern Israel from the beseiged Palestinian enclave. Tensions have been high in recent days as hundreds of Palestinian protesters gathered along the so-called separation wall between Gaza and Israel to protest Israel’s blockade of the territory.

Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, a towering figure in Reggae music and the leading pioneer of the Dub genre, has died at the age of 85. His prolific, often experimental, output was influential beyond Reggae and Dub and also pushed the boundaries of hip-hop and dance. Perry won several Grammy awards over his seven-decade career. “My deep condolences to the family, friends, and fans of legendary record producer and singer, Rainford Hugh Perry OD, affectionately known as ‘Lee Scratch’ Perry … Lee Scratch Perry will always be remembered for his sterling contribution to the music fraternity.
